To the X We Will Never Get, 2020

Video, 1920 x 1080 pixels

In this project, Yizhen (Cassie) Li explores various emotions in this chaotic time through a non-narrative animated video in relation to reality and augmented reality. Reflecting on the impact of technology on our daily lives and the conception of “home,” she focuses on the dramatic perspectives that address the different states of mind concerning artificial material, the universe, and the domination of cyberstalking. Treating the digital space of “home” as reality blurred within augmented reality, she intends to explore how the intangible is more real than the tangible at this time. Embedding personal experiences and political messages in the contemporary social context, she hopes to experiment with a new way of expressing art that addresses the fluidity of “home” based on her personal experience: an abstract symbol recreated by memory and expectation, a fusion of the past and future.
